The Headmen of Mars--Chapter 2: In the Land of the Headless Humans. John Carter regains consciousness and sees strange headless human slaves being ruled by an elite class of citizens. In the wilderness, Carter meets a headless creature that has been given a head. A great white ape grabs John Carter and intends to eat him.
The Headmen of Mars--Chapter 3: Strange Companions. The strange creature and great white ape have an extended conversation with John Carter, describing the origin of their condition.
